The Brady Brood

In The Geese of Beaver Bog (2004) Brend Heinrich documents geese pairs, who are fiercely competitive while nesting, joining up to raise their goslings together once hatched and willingly adopting parentless goslings. By teaming up, parents have more eyes to watch for predators. Heinrich also theorizes that a goose increases the chances that its biological offspring will survive if there are other goslings around, i.e. it's own offspring are less likely to be selected for attack.
